White aesthetics refers to the evaluation and management of tooth appearance in cosmetic dentistry. The White Esthetic Score (WES) evaluates five parameters: tooth form, tooth volume, tooth color (hue/value/chroma), surface texture, and translucency/characterization. These factors collectively determine how natural a restoration appears. Key white aesthetic principles include: matching the surface texture of adjacent natural teeth (using horizontal ridges, perikymata-like features), replicating natural color gradation (darker cervical, lighter body, translucent incisal), incorporating subtle characterization (minor imperfections that add realism), and achieving proper light reflectivity. The combination of PES and WES provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating dental aesthetic outcomes, particularly useful in research and treatment planning.
