Minimal-prep veneers (also called thin veneers or conservative veneers) require only 0.3-0.5mm of enamel removal, compared to 0.5-0.7mm for traditional preparations. Advanced ceramic materials like lithium disilicate and ultra-thin feldspathic porcelain allow fabrication of veneers as thin as 0.3mm while maintaining strength and natural aesthetics. Ideal candidates for minimal-prep veneers include patients with adequate existing tooth position (no major alignment changes needed), teeth with sufficient enamel thickness, and cases requiring primarily color or texture changes. The main advantage is enamel preservation — bonding to enamel provides significantly stronger adhesion than bonding to dentin. These veneers can last 15-20 years with proper care.
