Gum Health Basics
Essential information about maintaining healthy gums and recognizing early signs of gum disease.
Healthy gums are firm, pale pink, and fit snugly around teeth. They don't bleed during brushing or flossing. Maintaining gum health requires consistent oral hygiene, including brushing along the gum line and daily flossing. Early signs of gum problems include redness, swelling, bleeding, and tenderness. These symptoms indicate gingivitis, which is reversible with proper care. Left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis.
