When professionally applied, the procedure is non-invasive — no drilling required. The gem is etched onto the enamel surface and light-cured, creating a secure but removable attachment that lasts 6 months to several years. Professional application by a dentist is recommended over DIY kits, which may use non-dental-grade adhesives that damage enamel. Properly bonded gems don't damage the tooth — when removed, the surface is polished to its original state. Care includes gentle brushing around the gem, avoiding hard foods directly on it, and checking for looseness.
