Infant Oral Care
Dental care guidelines for babies from birth through the first year.
Oral care should begin before the first tooth appears. Parents should gently wipe the baby's gums with a clean, damp cloth after feedings. When the first tooth erupts (usually around 6 months), begin brushing with a rice-grain-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. The first dental visit should occur by the child's first birthday or within six months of the first tooth. Early visits establish a dental home and allow for early detection of problems.
